Easter Basket Ideas – That Don’t Include Candy

March 18th, 2013 in Activities

Do your children get so much candy from the Easter Bunny that you still have it come Halloween? I was looking for Easter basket gift ideas that don’t include candy when a friend of mine suggested doing a “summer fun” Easter basket.

So what’s in a “Summer Fun” Easter basket you ask? It’s all of the things your child needs for summer: flip-flops, swimsuit and cover-up, swim goggles, sunglasses, pool toys, sidewalk chalk, bubbles, jump rope, a kite and more – wrapped up in their Easter basket!

What I loved about this idea is that it’s all the things you’d normally buy your child for summer, but you can use the holiday as the excuse. And as a time-starved mom, I love it when I can kill two birds with one stone. And with grandparents often contributing to the kids’ Easter baskets, these themed baskets are a great way for them to get in on the fun, too.

Summer Fun Easter Basket

I loved the “themed” idea so much, I came up with a few more of my own:

Artist’s Basket
Coloring books, markers, crayons, an 11 x 17 frame to display their artwork, Play-Doh, stickers, silly putty and painting smock.

Rainy Day Basket
Rain coat and rain boots, DVD or movie tickets, books, bookmark, puzzle, tickets to the children’s museum, small game – like UNO or Old Maid – iTunes gift card or CD.

Princess Basket
Hair accessories, nail polish, dress-up outfit, dress-up shoes, fun socks, smelly lotion, lip-gloss, princess book or movie.

Oh Boy Basket
Army men, baseball cards, Legos, comic book, yo-yo, Slinky, silly putty, Matchbox cars, Mad Libs and sand toys.

Bookworm Basket
Easter-themed books like “Pat the Bunny,” “The Runaway Bunny,” “The Adventures of Peter Cottontail,” a flashlight (for reading under the covers), bookmark, word search book, notebook and pen.

Bedtime Basket
Singing toothbrush, Crayola Color Bath Dropz (turns the bath tub all sorts of fun colors) or bubble bath, bath crayons, bedtime story, new pajamas, fun socks or slippers.

Summer Sports Basket
This could be for any sport your child loves. I picked baseball: tickets to a minor league game, baseball and glove, baseball hat, T-shirt with their favorite team’s logo and baseball cards.

I’ve also found some great (and cheap) additions for my Easter baskets at Target in their dollar bins and at the dollar stores.

Do you have any ideas to add to our list?
